报告题目：Reducing Plastic Waste- Opportunities For Pulp and Paper Mills

Tingjie received his Ph.D. from Western University in Mechanical and Materials Engineering, he joined FPInnovations as a research scientist to develop value-added applications for paper and packaging using printed electronics and 3D printing. His research work has led to a patented technology to produce sustainable microwave active packaging, which has attracted interests in collaboration from several packaging companies. More recently, Tingjie is leading a research project team of 25 people focusing on developing cost-competitive, sustainable packaging products that can replace single-use plastics.
The Canadian forest products industry is going through a significant transformation through developing new products and expanding to new markets. FPInnovations supporting this transformation by leading the development and production of lignocellulosic-based chemicals and materials such as among others: Lignin, cellulose filaments, cellulose nanocrystals, wood-based sugar and functional pulp fibres. Another important aspect FPInnovations has been focussed on is to develop applications for these new biochemical and biomaterials by identifying potential market opportunities and by capitalizing on emerging technologies. In this talk, we will review the recent trend and development on plastic waste reduction, followed with FPInnovations’ strategy and progresses on developing high stretch paper and high barrier bio-based coating.
